Now, taking fingerprints and mug shots is standard procedure, and taking a suspect’s DNA is also part of the process when someone is arrested for a recordable offense. The information is held indefinitely and can be accessed from police forces nationwide. This makes it easier for police departments to cooperate with each other and apprehend criminals.
